
Alan Spence
Managing Director

Since joining the company in 2002 to help develop
the company’s hydrocarbon
allocation capability, Alan has been responsible for the growth and transformation
of the company into the leading independent provider of hydrocarbon accounting
services.
After working as an analytical chemist with the UK Atomic Energy Authority
for five years, Alan joined Moore, Barrett and Redwood to work on the fledgling
Sullom Voe Terminal development project and began a career in the oil and
gas industry which has seen him actively involved in hydrocarbon accounting
for almost 30 years. He has spent periods of his career with Occidental Petroleum,
Intertek (where he was manager of the Sullom Voe Terminal laboratory), Mobil
North Sea Limited and, following its merger with Exxon, ExxonMobil. Before
joining Smith Rea Alan was Allocation Superintendent with ExxonMobil with
responsibility for allocation, metering and laboratory services in the UK.
Alan is a chartered scientist, chartered chemist and a member of the Royal
Society of Chemistry.
Phillip Stockton
Technical Director, Allocation Engineering

Phil joined Smith Rea in 2000 as a process engineering
consultant working on both process engineering and hydrocarbon allocation.
Since joining in 2000, Phil his been heavily involved in the development
of the company’s
technical hydrocarbon allocation capability.
After graduating from Cambridge University, Phil worked as a process design
engineer for a number of oil and chemical companies in the North West of
England, these included: Anchor Chemical (fine chemicals), ICI (Organics
Division), White Young (Engineering Contractors) and Shell (Stanlow Refinery).
In 1991 he moved to Granherne in Woking where he built up experience of Oil
and Gas upstream process design and consultancy. After a period in Oman he
then moved to their Aberdeen office where he progressed to Principal Engineer
level. After 9 years at Granherne he left to set up the Smith Rea Aberdeen
office.
Doug Lindsay
Senior Consultant - Outsourcing, Specialised Personnel and
Training

Doug joined the company in mid 2006 to enhance
the Hydrocarbon Allocation team and help develop Smith Rea’s manpower
outsourcing and specialist training activities.
After working as an Analytical Chemist with Intertek for 8 years, Doug worked
in the area of offshore production chemicals as an Account Manager. He then
moved into Hydrocarbon Allocation and has spent the last 13 years working
in both contract and staff positions on various oil and gas systems. Before
joining Smith Rea Doug was Allocation Supervisor with ExxonMobil responsible
for oil and gas allocation services in both the Northern and Southern UK
sectors.
Doug is a Chartered Chemist, BSc qualified and a member of the Royal Society
of Chemistry.
Walter Macdonald
Metering Manager

Walter has been associated with the Oil and gas industry for in excess of
30 years.
After serving an Instrument Technician apprenticeship with BNFL he worked
for three years as a Medical Physics technician servicing electronic medical
equipment, then as a Hydrographic -Survey Field Engineer on Seismic vessels
and pipelay barges in various locations throughout the world.
He started work in the North Sea Oil and Gas industry as an offshore Instrument
and Metering Technician in 1979 and has since then worked in various roles
in the oil and gas measurement field including Auditor, Focal point Metering
Engineer and Measurement Consultant.
Walter has a BSc (Hons.) in Technology and a Postgraduate Certificate in
Technology Management gained from the Open University. He is a member of
the Energy Institute and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Gordon Inglis
Audit and Quality Assurance Manager

Gordon joined the oil industry initially as an
analytical chemist with Caleb Brett before working as a field chemist
for five years where he experienced oil sampling, testing, and production
at the ‘sharp end’.
He moved to Shetland to work at Sullom Voe Terminal where he was
involved in managing the laboratory and commencing a career which
has seen him actively involved in hydrocarbon accounting and quality
assurance for more than 25 years. He has spent periods of his career
with Intertek (where he was manager of laboratories at Sullom Voe
Terminal and at West Thurrock) and Oleochem. Before joining Smith
Rea Gordon was Managing Director of Oleochem Project Management
with responsibility for its international laboratory procurement
business.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Managers.
James Arthur
Manager, System Delivery

A graduate of Imperial College and Edinburgh University,
James has 10 years' experience in designing, developing and supporting
production reporting / hydrocarbon accounting systems. Working for Logica,
TietoEnator and now Smith Rea, he has delivered projects in Europe, North
America, Africa and Asia.
James started his career at Logica as a programmer supporting the allocation
and attribution system for the Theddlethorpe gas terminal in the UK. He then
worked in a variety of roles on system implementation projects, including
those for the Elgin / Franklin field in the North Sea and the West Natuna
Transportation System in Indonesia. At TietoEnator, James worked as a business
analyst and project manager on Energy Components implementation projects
for oil pipelines in the UK, a gas-gathering network in Canada and an LNG terminal
in Nigeria.
More recently, with Smith Rea, James has spent the
bulk of his time working on a Europe-wide Energy Components implementation
project for a major oil and gas operator.
